Serengeti Balloon Safari-Explore nature from the sky

Balloon safari are a romantic and evocative way of experiencing the wilderness of the endless plains of Serengeti, as you gracefully and silently fly over the plains teeming with herds of wildlife in the early morning. 

Balloon Safaris begin in the still air at sunrise. As first light sends a promising glow across the horizon at dawn, the balloon rises above the plains. The sensation of drifting above the world in silence is second only to the breathtaking views of the plains, forests and wild animals, drifting wherever the current takes you. The sounds below carry upwards, a lion's roar, elephants crashing through the bush, screeching baboons looking quizzically upwards. After landing, there is a traditional champagne toast followed by breakfast cooked on the balloon burners in the middle of the rolling plains.

The Experince

Even if you’ve flown elsewhere, this is a unique experience. The flight lasts an hour or so, drifting wherever the air currents take you, and with ample opportunities for photography and video filming. In the time honoured tradition of balloon flights the world over, you toast your return to earth with a delicious breakfast (complete with sparkling wine), cooked wherever you land. The Balloon Safari ends with a game drive on your way back to Lodge/Campsite.

Our custom 4X4 safari vehicles will pick you from your camp or lodge between 0400-0530AM and drive you to the launch site, to arrive by 0600AM. Depending on the weather conditions, you can enjoy a cup of coffee or tea while you watch the balloons being prepared for take-off. Our team/pilot will give a safety briefing as well as explain what you can expect during the flight. There are basic toilet facilities available at the launch site. NB: one launch site has toilet facilities.

The balloon crew will assist as you clamber into your balloon basket for take-off just before sunrise, at about 6:30AM. As you rise the Serengeti plains opens up before your eyes to feast on the golden sunrise, enchanting sceneries, plains-game below as the winds gently blows the basket deeper into the reserve. The pilot is at hand pointing out at the wildlife below with plenty of photographic opportunities unfolding. Soar silently with 360 degrees of spectacular savannah lasting approximately one hour, depending on wind conditions.
